Have you tried the Herbivore plant-based meats? I have and I am totally hooked. These are great alternatives for everyone looking to enjoy familiar foods like burgers, hot dogs, and cottage pie without contributing to animal cruelty.

Herbivore is a Cape Town based vegan business that make all their vegan products in a vegan factory. They sell a range of meats (protein alternatives), cereals, snacks, pantry items, and more.

the ingredients & the packaging

The plant-based meats are all under R50 and is packaged in plastic packaging. I have yet to find a locally made vegan meat brand that doesn’t package in plastic. Of the few plastic packaged items I still buy, vegan meats is top of the short list.

Mince: Soya protein (63%), Vegetable oil (sunflower), Soya protein isolate, Coconut oil, Cellulose, Molasses, Flavouring, Himalayan salt, Onion, Vinegar, Spices, Beetroot, Antioxidant (Vitamin C), Potassuim sorbate (E202).

Burger Patties: Soya protein (63%), Vegetable oil (sunflower), Soya protein isolate, Coconut oil, Cellulose, Molasses, Flavouring, Himalayan salt, Onion, Vinegar, Spices, Beetroot, Antioxidant (Vitamin C), Potassuim sorbate (E202).

Herbiwors: Soya protein (63%), Vegetable oil (sunflower),Soya protein isolate, Coconut oil, Cellulose, Spices, Molasses, Flavouring, Himalayan salt, Vinegar, Beetroot, Antioxidant (Vitamin C), Potassuim sorbate (E202), Calcium alginate casing.
